  New Delhi: The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will provide moing tea and rusks in all night shelters during winter months, beginning Saturday.The health department has constituted teams of doctors and paramedical staff to inspect the shelters twice a week.The DUSIB is mandated to provide shelter to the homeless population of Delhi. Presently, the agency is running 251 shelters through NGOs on a contract basic with a capacity of 19,499.During the previous winter (2016-17), the maximum occupancy at the night shelters was around 12,000.This winter, tents have been pitched up at the locations that have a concentration of homeless population. During night time, 20 rescue teams would ply different locations to shift the homeless people sleeping on the road side/footpath supported by 24x7 control room and Rain Basera app.While entry into the shelters is free of cost during the winter months, the homeless people are charged `10 each per day for entry into the China Wholesale Tents Manufactures shelters.Three-tier inspection teams have been formed for the upkeep of night shelters.As many as 55 tents have been erected as temporary shelter for winter season and the health department has formed teams of doctors and premedical staff to inspect the inhabitants of the shelter twice a week.

  New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has allegedly demolished a hostel for visually impaired students in Virendra Nagar, leaving its occupants homeless.The 17-year-old hostel housed around 20 students, who have alleged that they were not given prior information or time to gather belongings before the authority officials came to the immediate order."They (DDA) came and said to vacate the place in 10 minutes, and started throwing out our belongings," General Secretary of the hostel, Kamlesh Kumar said."We are not moving anywhere until the govement provides alteate land for our hostel. We have the support of our Nagar Councillor and the public."One of the occupants informed that they have been residing in tents, which provide little relief from the cold, since December 15 when the demolition took place. The tents along with food have been arranged by municipalitys Councillor Narendra Chawla.
